The Perfume Shop - Christmas Microsite

My role:

We picked this project up later than planned, so I had to dive in straight away to understand the requirements. Wireframing quickly, I worked with the eCommerce team to define a site map and various user flows. Then I provided a series of designs to them for approval based on their brand guidelines.

The Perfume Shop produces a Christmas catalogue every year, and wanted to provide a digital counterpart to customers. I had a limited amount of time to produce the web version – around two months, from wireframing to final delivery.

The design needed to be fully responsive, and it had to be something that could be easily integrated into their WordPress blog.

I had a few challenges to deal with along the way. For example, The Perfume Shop changed their brand guidelines halfway through the project, which meant I had to do almost a full redesign. With around 100 products to upload to the guide, there was a huge amount of project management required entailing compiling product lists, checking everything was live, chasing for broken links, checking and uploading text, chasing for missing text, and making sure that the user journeys all functioned as desired.

What was the outcome?

The microsite performed well, and was easier for me to build than the fully manual setup we’d used in previous years. Overall sales were up 24% on the previous year. I saw great engagement on social media too. Customers liked how the web gift guide mirrored the print gift guide but allowed them the flexibility of easier browsing and being able to share with friends.

The following year we used a similar setup but added sorting and filtering options to each gift ‘hub’ page (e.g. for him) using the Isotope javascript plugin.
